Designed to enhance the skills imbibed in the Cambridge Primary and to strengthen the core values laid out by Cambridge, the Cambridge Lower Secondary is the bridge between the Cambridge Upper Secondary (Grades 9 and 10). The Cambridge Lower Secondary allows the flexibility to integrate national curricula alongside an international education. There is also a Checkpoint exam at the end of Grade 8 to determine a learner’s progress in English, Mathematics, Science, Art and Design before they move on to the Upper Secondary Programme. It is not mandatory to take these subjects at the end of Grade 8 but helps learners and teachers assess themselves and their learners respectively by way of extensive diagnostic feedback from Cambridge Assessment International Education.
The Lower Secondary curriculum at DPS International is taught in Grades 6, 7 and 8 and is the preparatory stage where skills are learnt for the later stages of the Cambridge Pathway as well as for life. These grades enable a learner to understand the subjects being studied and make informed choices for the IGCSE and A Level programmes that they will progress to. The subjects taught at DPS International involve the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Sciences – Physics, Chemistry, Biology, apart from Social Sciences – History, Geography, English Literature, Second Language – Hindi and French, Third Language – Sanskrit, French, German and Spanish, Information Technology, Computer Science, Art and Design as well as Music, Dance and Physical Education. The curriculum is largely based on the Cambridge Lower Secondary and examinations are based on papers modified from the Upper Secondary Programme or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
The Cambridge Upper Secondary or the IGCSE is considered to be one of the most popular qualifications for learners aged 14 – 16 years and has been around for more than 30 years.
With a choice of 70 subjects to choose from, IGCSE truly gives a variety of subjects that suit learners’ aptitudes and also gives them a wide berth from which to follow their career paths.
IGCSE has been a part of DPS International since 2003 with the first examination in November 2004. Over the years, subjects have been added on and learners have been able to take up to 10 or 11 subjects choosing across various streams to give them a wider base to choose from. Ideally, it is advisable to offer 7 subjects across subject groups for the IGCSE. The IGCSEs are taken at the end of Grade 10.
The learners at DPS International have been awarded the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards since 2007 and have till this day 11 Top in the World, 21 Toppers in India and 2 First across India in eight subjects in the IGCSEs. With a trained faculty, DPS International is one of the top schools in India offering the Cambridge Upper Secondary and paves the way for the Cambridge Advanced programme which is offered in Grades 11 and 12.
